"Classical Gas"

Post by charliemike »

Holy crap ... I heard this guy named Tommy Emmanuel play it and it was freakin' amazing. I had heard Clapton do it but this version was much more complex ... Clapton must have had to tone it down because it was used in "Story of Us" ...

Anyway, it's pretty complicated if people are looking for a challenge :)

I saw Tommy Emmanuel play it at B.B. King's blues club last month, and let me tell you, he's absolutely amazing. He adds his own percussive stuff in, and little fills and stuff, it's definitely far more complex than the original version. See if you can find a recording of him doing the Beatles songs. He plays Daytripper, and he does the bass line and the vocal part at the same time. He has a DVD out also.

I was so blown away by him I'm thinking of flying to Chicago to see him play.

Go for it. I don't know how far Chicago is from you, but I'm sure the traveling would be well worth it. He puts on a great show for about 3 hours, talks with the crowd, and is always pulling out new stuff.
