trying to fix my guitar, but don't know where to start

i got a guitar a couple years ago for christmas and the bridge had been removed. being maybe 14, the really really really low action was awesome because i had absolutely no finger strength and it made it easier to learn. i never put one back in. now i'm having problems with the strings rattling a whole lot, not staying in tune, sound doesn't resonate at all anymore, and i think this is due to the lack of a bridge. up until a year ago, my guitar sounded so pretty and clean that even friends of mine who had martins put them down to play my yamaha and now it just sounds like shit. i'm going to be buying a new guitar soon because i want something i can plug in, but i also want to fix my first guitar. would putting a new bridge in be ok or is it too late?

well considering bridges cost like 1 or 2 bucks, go for it, if it doesnt work well then i guess you'll waste a little milk money

that would probably fix the problem. it would raise the action but it would keep the strings off the fretboard therefore improving resonance and decreasing fret buzz. My old acoustic has a bridge that was held on by the strings so that if you were changing strings it would come off and one time I had fret buzz for like a week before I saw my bridge sitting on the floor and felt like an idiot.

are you talking about the actual bridge or the saddle. The bridge is the block of wood with a slot in it and the saddle is the white thing that sits in the slot.

if your bridge "fell off" i can't imagine the guitar being playable. even without a saddle seems to be crazy talk.

did the guitar intonate without a saddle???

subistitute all of our respsons from bridge to saddle, i think thats what he means
