Need some help with vocals..

Post by uofatbone »

I wasn't real sure where to put this topic; this part of the forum seemed most appropriate.

I've been working on "Let It Be" a lot lately and I have the piano part down. It's the vocals that I'm having a lot of trouble with...well not all of the vocals, just one word/note. During the chorus, the second 'be' ("Let it be, let it be" that one), that one word/note is so friggin hard for me. I have to strain to hit it and it's about a 50/50 shot that I actually do. What can I do?

The louder you sing, the easier it is to stretch your range. At the same time, don't push too hard, or you'll develop catalysts on your cords.

Run and sing at the same time... your range will open up ... and you will gain more octaves!!! Trust me.

I knew that when I was writing it, but I put it down anyway. All I could think was, "Shiiit, what is it? Eh, fuck it."

They're called polyps and telling people to sing louder is not the greatest advice. Someone with no technique would not benefit from that.

This may make no sense, but it seems to work for me: Hear it before you sing it. Focus on it as the note approaches - imagine exactly how you want your voice to sound and just do it. Don't really think about the pressure of reaching for a note, think about how good it will sound when you hit it.

heh, flame me for this one but...

play it constant one night until so much you get frustrated and go to sleep.
when you wake up the next morning you should be able to play it perfectly.

does anyone else experience this?

Why would you get flamed for posting your experiences? :P

I've had this happen to me many a time, especially on songs with difficult timing.

I agree with that technique...I do the same thing to remember lyrics too while playing. It may not be all about sleeping, but many people retain more information through repetition, plus you remember cause you played the song to death the night before haha...peace
