in bartender, after daves done with his wailing and yellin and the whole bands kickin serious ass, he slides the d-chord way down the fret board to around the 13/14 frets and then slides back up hittin a couple chords on the way back to the d. anybody know what hes playin here?

ive tried watchin videos and hashin it out myself but havent had any luck. any ideas?

also, throughout the outro hes playin a d and a g. how many measures do you play each chord? i dont know if im just a moron, but ive had trouble following along with the timing of jam.

any help is appreciated. thanks yall.

That's most likely what you're hearing. You can also use this for the G chord:

And, I may be wrong on this, but I believe it's 4 measures each. I haven't listened to Bartender in a while.

ahh, that would make more sense. i've never heard him do that.

Yeah, he just slides the D chord up the octave, 12 frets up. watch him on FF

this is one of my favorit tricks when playing in a jam. D shapes are the easiest to slide up. on the treble strings G is 787, E is 454, A is 9109. they are all there.

and G shapes are next easiest. C is 558, A is 225, D is 7710. So you can really funk up a GCD progression by using these more trebly voicings. Rock on to Dave matthews for figuring out one of my favorite tricks.

these are seen a lot in reggae songs. (along with the other A, C, and E shapes)
