I need encouragement!

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I need encouragement!

Post by Teego Time »

I've been having a lot of fun learning some Dave songs, but when I start to play songs like 41, Jimi Thing, and Satellite and such I have a lot of trouble because I can't make the big stretches because my hands are hella small. Currently I'm learning Jimi Thing and I watched the video of that one dude playing it and man his hand was sooo big! He barely had to move it to reach all the notes, whereas I have to move my hand hella to hit em.

Anyone else out there got small hands too, and if so, how'd you deal with it? Aside from practice practice practice, is there any stretching exercise you can do to widen your figner stance?

Oh yeah, I'm new here! And Dave rules!

DMBTabs, Welcome to it.

I don't have small hands myself. But when I was first learing the stretches I would get my hand in them and just strum it for a long time until my hand started burning....repeat. :)

Thanks for the tips so far. Ordinarely I think I'd be getting it faster, but a week or two ago I fell rock climbing and sprained my wrist, so the stretch hurts a bit. I'm confident it'll go away though.

practice and strength and honor.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Just pratice and practice and practice. And here is some extra encouragement for you to...WOMEN!! The WOMEN love Dave! You have them over, bust out Crash(always works) and then a select other few and you are in. I need say no more. 8) So just play through the pain and master the stretches and you are golden.

Thanks guys!

Well, I've pretty much got Jimi Thing down. The one part that kills me is the part right before he goes to the E chord in the chorus, like where it totally breaks it down for a sec. I can't figure it out, like I watched the video a million times and I can get close, but not right on. It feels like i'm missing a few notes.

Oh and Pat, you da man!
