Capo on end of guitar

i see alot of people play with a thing that looks like a capo on the very end of the guitar by the tuning posts.

what does it do and is it a capo?

it is a capo, it's just a handy place to keep it when you're not using it.

If youre talking about it being on the headstock, its just somewhere to keep it when not using it. If youve seen it on the fretboard its used to change the tone of the guitar. For instance (and correct me if Im wrong) if you put the capo on the second fret and played a C chord, it would actually be a D chord, thats what it would sound like. If you put one on the 7th fret youre in raised B tunign and can play songs like YNK or Stay Or Leave without having to restring your guitar. Any more questions, feel free.

Yes...i believe it looks very very tacky..and would never want it to cover up my Martin logo...

haha... i keep my capo on the headstock when not in use. That way i dont lose it and its handy. Lol, i'm not too concerned how it looks when im in my room playing or at a gig.

I don't know if its true or not but I heard that it if you keep it on the headstock when your not using it that it changes the tone of the guitar slightly. However I've never noticed a difference.

Those capos put waaaayyyy too much unnecessary stress on the neck of your guitar. I have nothing to back that up, but I don't feel comfortable using them.

that mainly applies to kyser capos. i have one. the 2nd capo i bought was a victor capo (dunlop makes em i think).

its not a quick change capo like the kysers, but it only puts the amount necessary to fret the notes on the neck.

the thing about kysers is that no matter what it will make the notes go sharp due to the incredible amount of pressure placed on the neck. i only really use the kyser capo when i dont care if the notes go a little sharp or if i need to use a cut capo (by flipping the capo over).

i've always had a really cheap one where you place the capo and then screw a knob until its tight enough. my little brother has one thats like a huge clamp(a kaiser maybe?) and i didn't like it, to hefty.

I've had a kyser for a few years now and I don't think it has affected the tone of my guitar at all, whether in use, or up on the headstock. It sounds fine even when capoed way up the neck, like 3X5 by mayer is at the 8th

if you have a good tuner, use it when capoed. youll see youre sharp.
