You Never Know bass tab

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

YOU NEVER KNOW
5-string BEADG

Sources: 4.7.02, various other live versions, various videos including VH1/Letterman rooftop show. The tab corresponds to the live version, although the times noted for each part correspond to album version. Hopefully this doesn't confuse anyone.

this is my first post basically because i only got a bass 2 months ago. i use that sticky bass tab list all the time for reference and would like to think i am progressing nicely.

on the subject of this song, it is so rough and i am extremely impressed at the tab. i have ben using the dmbtabs version from the song catalog tabbed for 4 string. i cant really get a grasp on it but great work.

There really isn't much on this song/tab that "requires" a 5-string. The very last time for the verse, its pretty much the exact same pattern as the other verses, just an octave lower. On a 4, just play the standard pattern instead of the lower one. On the times he hits the open B string, just fret a B an octave higher on the 2nd fret of the A or the 7th fret of the C.

I know this tab is confusing in how it references times from the studio version but the tab itself is actually from a live version. The Central Park bonus came out since I did this tab, I might go back and modify the tab to reference it, since it is widely available.

To get a grasp on it, just break it down and learn one section at a time. I think the bigger challenge is actually learning what part goes where, following all the changes. Learning the actual notes isn't so hard once you get the changes down.

appreciate it. i can play most of the sections, but the timing is pretty rough for me. its not the end of the world though, almost every stefan tab i have learned so far is fun anyways.

The song is easy, IMO, the only difficult thing about it is memorization and being able to play it smoothly, and sometimes the timing throws you off a cliff.
