I've been checking out this guitar as a potential...anyone have any comments or complaints about the guitar? also any other suggestions for a good martin under 1000 dollars?

I also have a dx-1...
ryan a d-15 limited edition is like, 700.. that's a lot more then 400 for a dx-1.. so eh, I enjoy it, though it has hpl back and sides, it still has a good bang for it's buck

I played one a couple months ago and really liked it! Also mentioned before was the D-15 or my personal favorite the 000-15. Both of these are great if you prefer an all wood guitar.

I've played a DX1 and I liked it. It doesn't have a bunch of uneccessary appointments - but it plays well.

Some people are opposed to any sort of laminate. As long as the top is solid I'm sold.

There are quite a few Martins under a grand. Goto:

Check it out brotha.

EDIT: I'd recommend the DM over the DX1, the price isn't too far apart and the DM is a little bit "nicer".

Jason (Dmbfanjason) has a DX1 and we both think it sounds better (no joke) than his 1998 Taylor 414. I dont know if he just got a really good one, or what, cause I've heard a lot of people bash them. But the one I've played sounds like a much more expensive guitar.

Mine sounds pretty sweet compared to other guitars in this price range too.. whether they have solid bodies or not

It's Martin, that's why. Their bracing system is money and their guitars are made by hand.

Taylor makes their guitars by machine. I've played lower end Taylors and they don't sound as great as any entry level Martin.

Playablility is a big deal to me, I found that my budding abilities only flourished when I got my Martin because it inspires me to play and it is a very playable guitar - quick and responsive.

I know I mentioned that some folks 'dis laminates, I don't really care either way. If I like a guitar and the way it sounds then that's all that matters to me. (Didn't want y'all to think I was taking a pot shot at y'all)

Peace,

CJT

I agree totally. When I looked at guitars a couple months ago I found that the lower end Martins played very well while I wasn't that impressed with the Taylors until I got to some of the higher end models. Not bashing Taylors, just my observation. As always your best bet is to play everything you can get your hands on and make the decision based on what sounds/plays best for you.
