Purchasing a Taylor

Post by Twostep420 »

Sup everyone,

A couple questions. Is $1200 a good deal for a mint '03 414ce? Also, is the warranty transferable from the original owner? If it isn't, is it hypothetically possible, should there be a problem with the guitar, to give them the original owners name and info with my address? Or is it a pain in the ass? Also any thoughts or comments anyone has on the 414ce would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Happy jamming,

Alexander

I paid $1200 for a near mint 2003 410ce limited with rosewood and the es system and that was a deal, you didnt say yours was limited but normally 14's run more than 10's so Id say its a good deal

For $1200, I would just spring the extra nominal amount and purchase a guitar from a dealer. You'll get the warranty then.

You could get any 300 series new for <$1200 or close, and the 400 series may be $1300-$1400... just a guess since I haven't priced them recently. Also, I occasionally see dealers offering last-years Taylor models on sale... and they really are sales. I noticed this especially when the ES system came out... prices on the Fishman models seemed to drop. New 614ce for $1700, 514ce for ~$1600, etc.

Good luck shopping.

As far as I know the warranty is not transferable. The whole using the owners name with your address might work, but could be a hassle.

I think if you want to get a Taylor, and you are worried about the warranty, just buy one from a dealer. Just eliminates the hassle.

i just got a 412ce limited rosewood for <$1600. i know msrp is ~100 less for the 412 vs. 414, but i think i paid on the high side.

so you should be able to get a new one for a few hundred more. plus the warranty is not transferrable. as for the chance of needing to use the warranty in the future for taylors i can't say. but personally i would rather have a new one for a few hundred more.

good luck with the decision and search!

I paid about $1200 2004 Taylor 414-CE. A deal and a half, but try it.
