yep, and another one is african (south). dmb is often called "white music" because the vast majority of the listeners are white college kids. does that mean that all of the fans are white? no, but the majority of them are.chosta wrote:hell 3/5 of the band's black anyway, it cant be THAT white....8)

Yeah, you might as well say that 4/5 of the band is African. I know some kid from S. Africa and hes white. In Africa some white people are racist, so he gets real pissed if you call him and African American cuz he thinks he is being degraded. The weird thing is that he's a real smart kid and totally doesn't seem racist. Weird Stuff we got on our hands in the wonderful U S of A.

That's because many South Africans actually came from... oh damn... is it denmark or the netherlands? ah well, what i'm saying is a group from one of those countries migrated to south africa (most for money-making opportunities) - so they are not fully-African, that is where the racism comes from. only reason i know all this is because my sis spent 2 months in south africa last summer doing some stuff in the poorer parts of s.a.BigSpeen3436 wrote:Yeah, you might as well say that 4/5 of the band is African. racism is an evil of the past, one of the stupidest things that plague a great planet, and the even worse thing is, people dont discriminate against tons of shit for its color(do you hate black dogs), just the most important thing on earth--humans, if we all had no eyes, we wouldnt know or give a fuck who is what color, if there was only one race on earth, the world would be half as fun,----i am totally anti-racist, and anyone who is racist really has no argument, they are just ignorant
as for the music(sorry i trailed off) music is music, and music has no color, only pitch, harmony and melody, and they can be used by a person of any color, if we didnt have all sorts of races making music, we wouldnt have tons of good music, so for the question---is dave white music? i think its obsolete, the music was created for the ear, not the eye, and for all people, not certain colors,
peace

unfortunately racism is still around... whether serious or not, people are still be judged by what they are and not who they are.. its really upsetting and depressing... i dont understand why one person can think hes better than another... i myself decided to place me below everyone else so that i wouldnt do that.. its wrong to do otherwise.

Here's another bit from me to keep people thinking:
The band is only 1/5 African.
Yep, I said it. Dave Matthews, to my knowledge, is the only member of the band that was born and partly raised in Africa. We can all ignorantly assume that since Carter, LeRoi, and Boyd are all "Black" that they are of African descent. But Africa is not the only country capable of producing people with skin pigmentation.
The whole African-American label or any ethnicity label bothers me incredibly. Only unless you were born in another country and then became a U.S. citizen are you technically a ethnic-American. Otherwise, if you were born and home grown right here on U.S. soil it, it's safe to assume that you are simply an American. Isn't that something to be proud of by itself?
Respect your lineage and where you came from but I'll be the last person to walk around announcing that I'm a "French-Irish-Russian-American" (or whatever works for you) and making an issue out of it. I was born in America almost 22 years ago - I AM an American.
If you want to dig really deep, all humanity had it's origins in Africa. Some of us just stayed longer than others.
Ok, I think I need sleep...
Peace,
Kevin

i love the point, great point, just says more about indirect prejudice, we are all from other places, and we dont get called German-americans, just cuz we are white, yet, black people are called -african americans, cuz they are black-that is sort of unfair, that is a form of indirect prejudice, not intended to be cruel, just a thing of society that dates back to the slave day probs, thats a really good point man, peace

yeah i heard something about that, like the first people were black. i dont know if its true, but i wouldnt mind it if it was. nothing bothers me more when people think someone else is inferior to them because of their race or even because of disabilities. i see way too much of that due to the crap that is high school.

Hey... uh Kevin... Africa is a continent... NOT a country... and when it comes to the human race evolving the continent of africa IS the only place capable of producing black skinned people... and I believe it was stated that 3/5 of the band were "african americans" and in saying that they have a "black" skin color... not that they were africans... but saying that DMB is only white music is really absurd... Music has no color... but I have questioned why more blacks aren't into DMB... Now... I live in a halfway small southern town...and I'll go ahead and say that ALL the blacks that I know ARE total rap freaks and have no concept of music outside of processed beats and synthesised bass lines... I'm DEFINTLY not trying to stereotype the black community... but I know in my town your either a hank williams jr totin redneck or a thuggin gangsta... and there are very few of us who don't fall in the stereotypical death traps...
