holding a pick

Post by Jay »

which way do you guys hold your pic? do you play with the pointy side or the round side?

i keep switching every couple weeks...i can't decide...the pointy side lets you hit individual notes a little better, but it still makes fast strumming kindof awkward feeling for me, because it gets caught in the strings. one of my roommates plays with the pointy side and the other plays with the round side so they are no help.

is there a "good" way for dave-type songs?

I just assume using the pointy side since thats how picks are designed to be used. Using different thickness of picks is the only thing that should hinder/help you when playing dave. I prefer a medium/light pick. I think the ones Dave uses are .71's or something. I usually use those or ones that are a little thinner.

My roommate is a bit more of a jazz/blues player, and he swears by using a pick sideways. I feel like I dont have as much accuracy with it. Its just a matter of personal preference, really. Use what feels best.

I think dave uses a .60 tortex pic. The orange ones I think. I use the top-side..if that makes any sense at all. :D
Yes, I am Indian and I play the guitar. Believe It.

i use fender heavy's, tip side

or my right pointer fingernail...i'm almost to the point where i'm as accurate with my finger as a pic, and it makes strumming a lot free-er, on a song like warehouse or crash

so my problem with the pointy side is that it kinda...gets tangled up when i strum fast...it messes up my rhythm because it gets stuck between strings...do i wanna use less of the pic to make contact with the strings? or get a thinner/thicker one?

i use the dunlop .60's (i guess the ones dave uses). i switched to them from fender mediums and liked them better because they were easier to hold...
