definitely yoshi's, i think its the only version of #40 with full lyrics (not positive, but pretty sure). I've always been curious why they pushed that song aside, that would be cool if they retool it in the studio. I liked it, but apparently dave and the band didn't, who knows. Just my two cents, it's late and im babbling.
Dude, I love that song. I heard the full band version (Yoshii's) for the first time about 6 weeks ago. It was great. I'd like to see it resurface, but who the hell knows right? I don't know why it went away.
Yeah, that has become one of my absolute favorite songs. I love playing it too.
When Jesus Christ was nailed to his tree
Said "oh, Daddy-o I can see how it all soon will be
I came to shed a little light on this darkening scene
Instead I fear I spill the blood of my children all around"
they tried #40 in the Crash sessions, as well as BTCS sessions. The song was very rarely played with the full band, even so, the band didn't do much for it, it was really just a solo guitar driven song. Dave did play it quite a bit solo as short songs, and sometimes full. I bet for encores coming up, he will play it some more.
The yoshii's one is great, there are some other really great versions that are just as long though...check out 7.17.99 from the gorge, there's a video of this one floating aroung.

Itd make a fine opener. maybe segued into everyday.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
i hope it never appears on a studio album, once that happens, the lyrics will be set and it will always be those lyrics, and dave would probably never change the lyrics very much live

That could be the case but halloween is on a studio album and has different live lyrics everytime. I like how rare 40 is though, makes a show really seem special.
