whats your favorite song to play by Dave live? and which song do you find gets the best response when you play? wondering what I would play at an open mic. Any suggestions?

My fav dave songs to play live are the stone, tripping billies and ants marchin.... they always get a good reaction.

Favorite live DMB, hmmm, it would have to be Bartender or Minarets (with a close second being the Last Stop).

The one that gets most attention from me is the stone.

Good call on The Stone you guys. That's one of my favorites. My favorite to play live would have to be Grey Street. The vocal climax is a little tough though, but if done right, it gets a good response.

I always play SMTS-->ASTB-->Too Much. Not only did I write a sweet solo tab that sounds like the ASTB bassline and another for the sax part, I wrote almost a dozen extra verse fills to play for Too Much.

Everyday is a staple; I always substitute the last verse for one of the old #36 verses.

Grace is Gone-->WAYG is a great way to tone down the concert and make it really shine. Both songs are perfect for each other.

I also play a wicked extended version of jimi thing. Between the 2nd chorus and the last verse I play a couple of long solo jam riffs. I then slowly move into playing the two harmonics which are the intro to for what its worth. I play the first verse and then play the chorus like dave does on CP, making references to where ever I'm playing (I'd like to thank all you wonderful people in Tofino BC...STOP hey whats that sound, everybody look whats goin down....I'd like to thank all you blokes from down under....STOP...). If I have time I sing one of the other verses. Then I move into the falsetto "lately I've been feelin low..." while playing just the two harmonics, which sounds kickass. I play the last chorus of jimi thing, then move into WWBOM like on L@LC. I play that for a while with lots of soft falsetto singing and made up lyrics. All in all it can be about eleven minutes, but it is the climax of my DMB stage act.

I found out the hard way that most people get freaked out when I play watchtower, especially screaming fire at the end. My voice cracks too much. I prefer Stay as a closer. More than any other DMB song, it is perfect and beautifully suited to my vocal range. I do lots of scatting and vocal tics, lovely lady style, at the end.

Granny and Ants are my favorite encores.
