official boyd sucks thread :)

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

i think boyd is cool too, but im pretty sure they were talking about the skill of him, not the man himself.

bahhhh.... i think his violin skills are still great...tho i haven't seen many violinists in bands that are as big as DMB. which is a credit to boyd in itself.

Personally, I think the band would sound so much better without the horn or the violin. I would love to hear that show. When Dave palys with the whole band all the instruments tend to get mudded together. Of course since i play guitar, that's all i really care to hear aside from the drums and bass. I can't remember the last time i listened to a track with Dave and the rest of the band. kkkkkkkkkk....go ahead and flame me.

there are some songs which i would rather have boyd and leroi just not be there (osw), but for some songs they make it so much better.. if he played all along the watchtower without them i think it would take away from how awesome it sounds... warehouse without boyd isnt as amazing as it is with him.

what a bunch of friggin horse crap this is(but I like it!)

It's just really funny to me to hear all these "experts" of music scrutinize and criticize DMB...They are quite funny...They go along every day, teaching their pupils one by one, making a few bucks, dreaming every day that they could live the life of DMB, be able to stand up in front of tens of thousands of people night after night and have a blast. Of course they have to criticize them, they've got no other chance to become anything at all by writing their own music...they have to bring DMB down to feel less threatened or more of a "musician" in their own mind. Thats the way people work man...I see it all the time, and this is no exception....

There is a difference between technicality, and art...DMB is just art man...thats it...

wait a minute jason, you're saying that because someone is popular, that means they shouldn't be criticized, and that because they are popular, their music is art?

yeah, that's excatly what i think when i listen to the radio and hear the likes of britney spears.

i know people who play violin way better than boyd, and that somehow makes me insecure? please...

My feelings about the DMB have never been summed up so well as with that. I've often said im not a fan of the band, but a fan of Dave Matthews. I would love to hear that though, cause the only thing that annoys me about the band is the horns and violin. I just can't stand them. To me they just ruin everything. Maybe thats just the rythm acoustic guitarist in me talking, but they just dont do it for me. I bought Luther College on the reccomendation of a friend and loved it (one of my all time favorite cd's, and the reason im typing this right now), then bought Live at Folsom Field and hated pretty much every bit of it. I then bought Busted Stuff, and like about 4 songs on it. Those 4 four being the four with the least of the horn and violin. I don't really know what im getting at here, but that quote does sum up my feelings on the "band" rather well.

i like boyd, ive always felt that one of the things that makes dmb so great is that they are a pretty mainstream or popular band that has sax and violin in there, but i do love dave solo too
