Modulus Basses

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

That price hike sucks doesn't it . . .

I got my Flea 4 new for $1775 about a month before the price increase. You can probably still find them used for $1200.

Check out planetbass.com for Modulus. That's where I got mine.

I'm thinking a warwick corvette 5, dolphin sn5, flea 5 or quantum 5. Can't decide. And i hate warwick strings. And I'd have to get a used quantum if i went that route.

I used to dislike 5's until a played some nice ones recently.

Flea's daughter is on one of the 311 DVD's at one of their shows and she says how big of an influence P-nut (311's bassist) is to Flea.

Used is really the only way to go with higher-end basses, considering you can get a nice Quantum for half the cost of new. The only reason I went new on the Flea was because the dealer gave me a great trade-in on a bass I couldn't manage to sell on my own.

What I really respect about Flea is how many different styles he has used over the years. Of course he has evolved from the younger slap-happy type to the refined melodic player, but lately he has been working with a pick, exploring chords, and in a lot of cases, really stepping out of the spotlight and playing the song instead of playing the bass.
