"In a boy's dream..." strumming pattern in Crash

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

"In a boy's dream..." strumming pattern in Crash

Post by goltzy »

OK, I've gone over this song forever now. I am by no means a beginner, as i can play the hard shit that Dave plays, but this part is frustrating me a lot. Can some one explain this to me in any way possible? I've looked at the tab on the site but its not helping. Plus, listening to the song throws me off because Timmy is doing his thing in the background. Thanks fo any help guys.

The rhythm is the same as the verse but instead of playing the bass line he keeps his middle finger at the fourth fret.

well first thing, don't look at the tab. Kanter knows its wrong, but he hasn't fixed it yet.

Its exactly the same pattern as the verse and intro. the trick is, you keep your fingers in the first formation for alittle while. (if it were on a tab it would show that formation four times, two long strum patterns and two short ones) then you just follow the rest of the pattern. if that didn't help, which it probably didn't, hit me up on AIM. Or watch one of the dave and tim dvds, the camera doesn't move around as much and you can see everything.

Do a search for billywestom and crash. He tabbed out every strum and posted it a few times, as well as doing an mp3. It helps immensely.

I'd love to see one of them, but every time I try to find one, it's from a dead link.

Any idea where to get one? Did they release a DVD of one of their performances?

if you know how to play the verses, you know how to play that part :)

you know how you hit the bass note before every chord? well you do that with the first chord but instead of changing you hold onto it for a little while.starting at "in a boys dream" you'll hit 4 times before you move on to the next chord, then you just play the rest of the chords like normal :)
