Conga/Bongo Help

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Conga/Bongo Help

Post by jdmbfan »

I need some advice.

First, what is the difference between the two?

Any recommendations for a beginner? Where to purchase? What to purchase? I want to add a little something to me and my friend's acoustic guitar playing. Thanks in advance.

a bongo is two small drums that have a very small range of sounds, they can pretty much only do high registers. a conga is two tall drums that have a much deeper sound.

i wouldn't recommend either really, because, without having them both, you cant get a real large range of sounds. i would recommend instead getting a djembe. they can get much lower ranges than congas can, and they can still get higher ranges. plus, a djembe is only one drum and doesn't require a stand like congas do. also, they are usually a little cheaper

I have a djmebe and love it. I highly recommend one to add to an acoustic duet. THey sound nice and are fairly easy to pick up basic rythms.

I've never heard of a djmebe before? I will look into it. I'm just trying to create some beats. I've been listening to alot of live Ben Harper lately. I'm not sure what the sounds are even being made from on the cds I have.

damn, all you need is a snare and a ride and/or hi hats. Get some hot rods and it is the shit. Really good for acoustic

I want to get a drumset (not that I play drums very well, just simple beats) just to have on recordings. It would be cool.

not really. Depends what kind you get. It may be 400 for the drums, then you need hardware and cymbals. You might even need to get a snare. My starter set was a 499 set and it ended up costing over 1000 when I got it home. And it was just basic stuff. My current set costed up the wazoo. Over 3000 and I am loving it
