chet atkins sst help please

Post by 6224321 »

hey everyone. i got an epiphone chet atkins sst guitar and i really like it, despite all the bitching everyone does about theirs! i would like to ask a coupla questions though...

1. how should i string it? with regular acoustic strings, or electrics as it's a solid body?

2. can it be a substitute for an electric, provided i get a strap-on of an amp?

thanks so much.

stay cool,
dave.

1. String it with regualar acoustic strings.
2. Not sure what you're asking. I wouldn't put a metal-zone distortion pedal in front of it or anything. It's basically an acoustic guitar (sound-wise), so just treat it like one. but, yes, you will need to play it through an amp to make it heard

remember, it is an electric guitar. If your going to string it with acoustics, put on lights or extra-lights. My gut feeling is that if you string it with anything thicker than that, the results might not be so nice.

I don't think so. I string mine with heavy's and it sounds great. It's all preference.

hasn't been a problem for the past 7 years that that guitar has been strung with heavy gauge.
