Speaking of the Grammys, anyone watch them last night? they sucked pretty bad, anyway, the only good performances out of the umpteen that there were, were Norah Jones (who I am now in love with) and James Taylor with the Celloist (sp?) and I guess Simon and Garfunkle was nice too. anyway, what's shizcrackstompinpoppin', today guys? This thread seems to be a good lounge for the day.
PEACE,

wooot! i thought it was pretty good stuff. i feel you on the No Such Thing part, that's my favorite song of his too, but i thought his performance was pretty good. i really liked that jam. and i don't think it's his fault he didn't have time to play the whole song. if anything, it got my fam. interested in acoustic guitars. 'cos i play like crap they think that's the limit of the instrument but after yesterday they have a new respect for the 'coustic.

oh yeah, don't get me wrong man. I'm a huge Mayer fan, and I realize that he only had a short time for to play last night. That jam was pretty cool, but he can do even more amazing shit that that on the guitar. He's tougher to play than Dave, I find. Mayer's got like a SRV style of playing which is hard to get used to.
good, and you?
It seems like these threads always go off topic, so i'll put in my two cents on the LLD cover. Don't take this the wrong way, believe me this is a compliment. Your voice sounds almost exactly like the lead singer of The Kinks. Ever heard the song 'Celluloid Heroes?' That is one of the great ones, and your voice is that voice, i mean damn.
That's all i got, nice playing....

well, let's see hear hanstico...
I got two options...
1.) I can either take in what you have to say:
your singing isn't great. it's brittle, thin, soulless, and generally boring.
...now with this i might think something like..."maybe tico's right, man I do sound kind of boring, soulless, etc. I shouldn't sing anymore until i get lessons at least. Or maybe I should give it up, because you either have it or you don't".
2.) Or I can take in what others have said:
-jason, I'm becoming increasingly more fond of your vocals....they sound easy and not forced.......very smooth.....and as usual your guitar playing is spot on. Have you been practicing your vocals like mad? cuz your getting (in my opinion) really good. nice work.
- no seriously, like greg said your singing is particularly better on this one and I can also tell how it has improved.
-Jason.....real good job on this one...the vocals fit really well. The guitar playing was perfect, especially the transition and chorus at 1:38. Nice to see a different song posted......I enjoyed it.
-about your recording. i think it's pretty good. your guitar and vox are pretty good

-guitar, dead on...
voice, SOUNDS LIKE SIR PAUL mcCarteny
......................whatever that last one means...............
NOW..with this I can say..."Wow, looks like I am getting better. Cool, people like my vocals more on this one than the others. I shall continue to post covers on the internet for fun!"
OK OK..so if you were me, what would you do??
Would you even think twice about the first comment that came from a "wannabe opera singer"?
or would you go blow off Opera singing and continue to practice and work on improving your singing?
YOU BE THE JUDGE...You don't like me you homo, so I really don't give a shit about your critiques because they are so bias and prejudged...I would appreciate it if you never critiqued my covers again, you dork...loser...hahaha, just kidding tico, you are my brotha dawg...lets just be friends...what do you say?

What the hell is that supposed to mean??? Let me give you a clue, because you obviously don't have any idea about dealing with other human beings. If you want people to like you, you don't insult them. If you want people to respect your opinions, you listen to theirs, and when you ask for honesty from people, don't bite back when you get it.
In terms of the critiques of your voice, I agree that you have improved some. I said nothing to deny that. I have no idea what the Kinks sound like, but for some reason whoever said it felt the need to make sure that you knew it wasn't an insult. You don't sound like Paul McCartney. I stand behind what I said in my critique. You want to be a great singer. You are a pretty good singer right now, but you have the negative vocal characteristics that I described. You're better than many here on these boards, but that doesn't say a whole lot. The musical world happens to have boundaries far greater than dmbtabs.com.
I'm not saying don't post covers. I'm saying that when you ask people for honest critiques, don't get pissed when someone like grave tells you what he thinks. Either post your covers and suck it up or don't post your covers at all. EVERYONE on these boards has gotten some negative feedback, and you are the ONLY ONE who ever got bent out of shape about it. You get more praise and less negative criticism than almost anyone else on these boards, and still you are the ONLY PERSON to ever get pissed about someone saying something negative about your covers. Get over yourself. If you ask for an honest opinion, don't go running home to mommy when someone tells you something you didn't want to hear. There is a difference between honesty and brown nosing, and you seem to want the latter, so don't ask for the former unless you can deal with it.
The constructive criticism that most have recieved has motivated them to improve, not to lash out at the people who went out of their way and took time to listen and comment on their covers.
I have no problems being friends. I have been very patient with you. I have given second and third and fourth and fifth and sixth (and so on for ever and ever) chances, but you always go back to being a jerk, whether it's directed towards me or someone else. I have no problems with continuing to be patient, but don't think that I'm going to look the other way when you start to treat other people like crap. I'm only harsh with you when you are a jerk to other people. You want respect and friendship?? You have to give it first.

I think John Mayer is a good guitarist, but the song I saw last night...the main riff was easy and boring and that was the best part...the most enjoyable...and the jam....or whatever the hell that was didnt even fit into the song...it seemed like it turned into a wannabe timmy solo(which arent that melodic or enjoyable as I have seen him live solo)...
but hey thanks tico for acknowledging my improvement man...and for saying that I am a pretty good singer...I am gonna try to get more emotion and energy into my next covers...
i have heard lots of people sing...on and off concerts and yada yada...holding a key is a tough thing to do...seriously...have you heard some of the bands out there live....the singing sounds like shit...staying in key is a task, and I feel that I am at least good at that. peace!

Tico, don't question my motives for writing! I wrote that for 2 reasons:
1. Not many people know the Kinks, and if this Jason kid hates them, he might think that i had insulted him.
2. I wasn't sure if Jason had been fed his bottle yet, so i thought comparing him to the Kinks may have made him irritable.

people who cant take negative criticism crack me up. INstead of taking in a different prespective, they blow it up and deny whatever they say. If you arent man enought to face the weaknesses, you never get better. And yeah i suck at playin, if i posted a cover id be ready to let better players tell me where i suck.
But then we'll step on the court and play a set and then i'll critique.
But anyways, i liked your guitar playing. It was very good, and i tried to play that song, and the chorus is a bitch. Nice work nailin it.
