j/k I can't do that, but I can say that I think I have something to do with how this thread got hot. I was in a pissy mood and I think I vented by giving a pretty blunt critique on Jason's cover. oh well. what can ya do when you live in a shoe? pack up your loot and move to a boot, I guess. I don't think there are any hard feelings between anyone here. And besides, we're men (young men, whatever) and we don't hold grudges. At least I don't. peace playas!!!!!!!!! !! !! ! ! 8)
Man I don't care...I'm jsut having fun....I"m not even worked up about anything...
it's all for shits and giggles.....
Jason is scared....he knows what he's scared of....

i think i only have like 21 posts on this board or something and have only been playing for like 9 months so i have no moral authority to post an opinion of this type. end of disclaimer.
now i just want to say about this whole critiquing thing. i really like this section of the boards. i like to hear what everyone is playing. naturally some ppl are better than others but that's cool - i like all that i hear. now i say all the arguing that's going on when someone critiques a piece is unnecessary. if you submit something to be evaluated, be prepared to get good and bad reviews. take what you can use and let the rest roll off your back. and i don't see what good can come out of personal attacks.
just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

about your recording. i think it's pretty good. your guitar and vox are pretty good. i'm not good enough to tell you what to improve on - just keep playing dude.
btw - what guitar do you use?

Congratulations, Jason. You are officially the biggest a-hole that I have ever come across yet again. Let me say why:
You are such a namby pamby that you get all bent out of shape when everyone and their mother doesn't listen to your covers. Poor little Jason-pooh gets his panties in an even tighter wad when people say "yeah that cover was good" after hearing all fifty million that he's posted. He wants to hear in depth critiques again. So what do the fine people of this board do? They give him in depth critiques, even though the majority of his own critiques are so pathetic that it's not worth taking the time to read them. Oh, but the story doesn't end here. You see, even though the people here go out of their way and take their time and dedicate it to listening to cover number fifty million and one by Mr. Inferiority Complex Jason, he wants more than that. He claims he wants an honest opinion, but that's not it at all. He wants you to feed his hungry ego, and if you don't, look out, because the sole meaning of his life can be summed up in one of his covers. To post a negative opinion on one of his covers is to tear at the very heart of jasondmbfan, who would suck dave's cock to hear him play-jason's words, not mine. That's right, he claims he wants honesty, but he just wants you to tell him how awesome he is. And, while he's great at the guitar, he isn't awesome with anything else musically. So, when gravedigger gives jason the honest critique jason claims he wants, jason completely changes the subject, and claims that because grave was out of tune on his OSW cover, grave has no right to talk. No one does anything perfectly, so we should all just shut up now, because if we can't do everything just perfectly, we have no business talking about it. wow, well if that isn't the dumbest thing i've ever heard, i guarantee you that whatever that "dumbest thing ever said" thing is, jason said it.
jason, you've been whining all day about wanting more in depth critiques. grave acknowledged that his aren't very good and said he was going to try and change that, and he did. he said that at times it sounded out of tune, something that you yourself admited to earlier. and then, you show your true asshole colors and rip him for no reason.
here's my honest opinion of your covers jason: your guitar playing is great. that's undeniable. your singing isn't great. it's brittle, thin, soulless, and generally boring. while someone like cavecricket might not play the guitar quite as well, and while he may be out of tune more than you every once in a while, i'd much rather listen to his covers, because they're expressive and fun. yours just kind of lie there. keep the guitar stuff up, that's great, but get some life in it. and if you're ever going to be good at singing, it's going to take a hell of a lot more work than you are doing right now. there are lots of people who can keep a song in tune, but that's not singing. lot's of people can sing along with the radio in their cars, but only one in a million can captivate an audience with their voice.

one heck of a song writer hmmm hard to explain , i guess it just falls right into my taste of music , tone , great voice , awesome lyrics , sweet guitar playing in a very intresting tuning i love every bit of it , except it seems like there is some trouble with the song ( you are mine ) suddenly it turns into a transistor radio for a second lol , besides that , great work .
Maybe i'll post a full review when i know exactly how to describe everything
hey...now wait a minute...my mom, who has been in music all her life AND played the piano for a grand total of 20 years even said that I have a good voice and a natural gift of being able to sing well...so...
Yeah I dont feel like getting into the fray, so Im just going to post my review and leave it at that.
Your guitar work is difficult to critique, because its so spot on. I'm really reaching on a couple of these, but if you want scrutiny you got it.
1:13/2:01 - little sour note? Something just sounded funny in those little breakdowns to me. Like theres a note that shouldnt be there. (Its probably me.)
2:08 - "Share this smiiiiile...." Im not feeling the emotion here. Your vocals are generally good, but to me it feels like youre just singing instead of capturing the feeling (emotion) of the song at most times.
2:46 - "Could I love you..." Emotion comes through here. It sounds like you're smiling when you sing this part. I like it. (No Im not a raging homosexual.)
3:40-4:00 - This is probably the area that needs the most work, or an adjustment. You need to bring the vocals down or something, cause it sounds like thats a little out of your range.
General suggestion: Record at a higher bitrate and frequency, if possible. It will make a good bit of difference in the sound quality.
Guitar work is perfect to my ears. Honestly, you have Dave's guitar style pinned. The vocals are coming along, and theyre only going to get better. Excellent cover.

"Don't talk to me about naval tradition. It's nothing but rum, sodomy and the lash."
jason, look at what I said about your singing. i said it wasn't great. i said it was thin and didn't have emotion. i didn't say that you can't sing, but you talk about wanting to be really really good, and that's not the point you're at right now. you do fine just carrying a tune, but good singing is not about carrying songs, it's about bringing life and character to them, as opposed to merely pushing them along. that is what my critique of your voice was getting at. i think that you could get to a point where you do more than just carry a tune, but it's going to take a lot of work.
and finally, i wouldn't put a whole lot of trust in all of your mom's opinions. my mom thinks i'm going to be winning grammies some day, and she also has been doing music stuff for forever. but let's just say that i'm not really counting on getting to that point. mom's are supposed to think way too much of their children's abilities and talents.
