Trey and Mayer are the two best new guitarists......Hendrix is the most revolutionary. BB King is amazing but hes not the "best" Duane Allman is a god, Eric Clapton is incredible, Robert Johnson was great too

Hendrix = Overhyped Druggie who appealed to druggies

Okay, shall we look at talent all around here?

Steve Vai (The fact you people didn't mention him is blasphemy!)
Joe Satriani (See Above)
Eric Johnson (Jazz/Rock fusion, amazing)
Yngwie J. Malmsteen (Neo Classical GOD)
Lindsey Buckingham (A master of Travis picking and great songwriter)
Zakk Wylde (For still soloing in 2004)
Randy Rhoads (He was gifted, amazing, wrote intoxicating melodies...)
Stevie Ray Vaughn (Blues man among blues men)
Robert Johnson (The king of Delta Blues)
Jake E. Lee (The ozzy guitarist on Ultimate Sin)
Andy LaRouque (Guitarist for King Diamond, listen to him)
Michael Schenker (U.F.O. need I say more?)
Alan Holdsworth (A great guitarist who played with Tony Williams among others)

As for saying Mayer and Tim Reynolds are the best modern guitarists...you guys must not follow music much eh? Guitarists like Johnny Lang, and guitarists from bands like Arch Enemy, Nevermore, and the other wave of Swedish and European metal bands...those guys hold talent...Mayer, Dave Matthews, etc. those are all brilliant SONGWRITERS who write great melodies to sing with, but none of them compare with the ability to just take a guitar and make it do anything you want it to...Don't get me wrong, Daves technique is great, it mixes a competent supply of folk in with typical alternative/pop style acoustic playing, with an ability to hide the true complexity (DMB music is deceptivly simple) of his music...kudos to him for keeping a good form of music alive in todays rap and nu-metal run world...but give credit where it deserves to go!

While you see Hendrix as overhyped, i see Vai and Malmsteen as overhyped. yes both are techinically amazing, but god awful to listen to. Vai just gets annoying with his playing because he lacks any feel. While i repsect Malmsteen's ability to mimic Baroque to a T, i find that to be boring as well. both of these guys are incredibly fast, which to me, after a few listens through, is just a novelty

good call on Eric Johnson and Robert Johnson though. and stevie too (but i can only take so much of the same thing over and over again)

Okay, shall I delve deeper one who is so quick to use caps in his post at moi?

Hendrix was great, okay, yes, wonderful blues stuff! He revolutionized guitar and inspired millions upon millions of people, yay. I have no problem admitting that and I should have put it in my post...stupid Bill

Now however, there were MANY guitarists around at the time that were just as good if not better than Hendrix...Zappa, and Les Paul ring a bell ? Not to mention other black bluesmen around at the time...

And you had it backwards...Vai has plenty of emotion, its Malmsteen who does the emotionless scale runs :P

Just because Esteban is on late night TV selling that guitar does not mean he is not amazing. Download some of his music and check it out. He truly is an amazing guitar player. Don't hold the QVC show against him. He's obviously just trying to make some money.

John Williams and Alirio Diaz (he's also Venezulean like me.... :D )
Try to listen to some Venezulean Waltzes, they are really amazing.
