i'm pretty sure the "~" means vibrato. like BBKing. you hold the note and roll your finger back and forth. I always thought "..." or just "." meant to let it ring. sometimes ">" can mean that too. really you gotta know the peice and what it is trying to describe. if you hear a vibrato then that's what it means. if you hear a note ringing out then that's what it means.

tab is so informal and not really at all standardized except for the 6 lines. the squiggly in regular notation means vibrato. that is like a bunch of ~~~~~~ like that only all connected.
