AFAIK it was just something Dave drew a while back. But I could be completely wrong.

Its from a drawing dave did as a reflection on what he sees when people are dancing in the crowd, and the lights shine on them...

There are a couple of sites that have some of his old art work. He drew some really wierd shit so that's prob. what it is. I don't know the sites but if you wanna look just search dmb art or dave matthews band art.

Well the way i thought of it, he just drew a depiction of his lyric from Tripping Billies: "My yellow flame she dances".
