can someone tell me what "flatpicking" is ??

This is the place to talk about guitar playing not done by Dave! Topics about techniques, styles, theory, and other guitarists go here.

strictly speaking, flat-picking is just playing with a pick.

but carter style flatpicking, is like what bluegrass players do. it involves playing the rhythm and the lead at the same time by playing riffs on the melody notes. you also hear it alot in blues music.

http://bluegrassguitar.com/studytune/index.htm this is a good link to learn more.

usually that is what flatpicking means. it is carter-style flatpicking, or crosspicking.
