Anyone play an Alvarez-Yairi???

I was wondering if any of you guys have ever played an Alvarez Yairi WY-1?? i know they are hand made in Japan and it is Ani Difranco's (my favorite artist) and many others (Bob Weir, Warren Haynes) guitar of choice but i dont hear much about them on any boards...any help would be cool!

It was actually my first guitar. I still have it. I love it. They're a wonderful hand-made product. Actually my dad also has one from the 70's, and they only get better with age. I'm looking forward to when mine's 30 years old and sounds even more awesome. I think they're pretty underrated. What kind are you looking at?

i was looking into getting a WY-1...i have small hands and i have heard that the necks on those were faster than taylors....then again i'm not sure how much truth is in that.

there are no necks faster than Taylors.... i havent played everything but its simply not possible.

i was talking to a friend of mine earlier and he was like 'you like Taylors right? i went to sam ash and played a few...i dont know... they were just so perfect... i picked it up and started playing and there wasnt a single bad thing about it... it was just perfect'..

i was like yup. they are perfect arent they. hehe

But Shane's right! Bob Taylor has no clue on how to make poor/high action. That shop has skills.

I played a cedar/rosewood Taylor the other day and I was very impressed. I also played an HD-28v and it didn't sound so good . The strings looked old I'll admit but the Taylor was just built better.

I've tried, I don't know how many times, to sit down and play a Martin at the guitar store just to see what all the hub bub is about. Everytime, I end up disapointed no matter which one I try. I always end up back in the Taylor room.

same, except martins and Taylors are in the same room. as well as ovations, taks, generics, fenders, ibanez's, etc (not a great selection of acoustics at sam trash.)

At the Seattle guitar center has the martins and taylor seperate. Taylors have their own little room and the martins are in the other one with the ovations, taks, generics, fenders, ibanez's, etc.

EDIT: It's nice cause I can just close the door and be alone with the taylors.

I have a Yairi DY-91 currently. I did a blindfold test with the DY-91, Taylor 510, and a used Martin HD-35. Yairi won hands down. I couldn't beleive it. I thought the taylor would come out on top for sure. Before everyone starts this is nothing against Taylors they are definitly great guitars and I plan on buying one in the future to add to the collection.

I own a Alvarez Yiar-. First guitar I ever bought actually. I played on my dads when I was learning and then decided to pick up one myself. In short (I'm biased), its a great guitar. I put it right up there with (and above) some of the other big names. I've rarely played a guitar that I liked more. Wonderful sound, they age well, beautiful, etc...
