Recording Help Please

Hey guys,
I have read all the posts about how to record using Audacity but am having a complication. I have a Martin DR with a Fishman Powerjack (built in preamp), i ran the cable from the guitar, attached a mono 1/4" to 1/8" adapter and ran it into the line in on my SB Audigy and it is not recognizing the input at all. Any ideas???

you selected it in your audio properties in windows, right?

Yeah My SB Audigy is selected as the recording device and playback device for that matter in windows. Line-in is the set recording device off it. The pickup has a preamp built in and i tested it on an amp to make sure its working ok, could it be it needs to run through an amp before it hits the computer? That wouldnt make sense though.

running it through the amp would be pointless in this case.

i'm not sure, though, because the selection in audio properties would be the big one. it doesn't make sense that you'd plug the 1/8th into the line-in, though, because otherwise you'd have to crank up the volume on it to get it to register. have you tried the microphone hole? since it's 1/8th.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. Tried everything and finally ended up using a microphone which worked as soon as I plugged it in. Try plugging your guitar into your mic-in port. I tried every troubleshooting tip these guys gave me and still no luck with the direct guitar plug in. You may want to try a mic if you have one available.
