The song is mostly up to personal interpretation, but it basically is biographical (the stepfather) and "Grace" in this sense can be either a woman or God's grace, as mentioned in the Nancies FAQ. Think about it: "She broke my heart, my grace [as in luck, will, etc.] is gone..."
