first of all, welcome to the boards!!!
Now, the first thing I must say is, do NOT jump right into learning a song. Especially Crash, it can be quite a stretch for a beginner. First thing to do is search around for some online guitar lessons, learn the basics; chords, bits of theory, progressions, etc. Practice for a few weeks until you are comfortable playing chords and changing them. Then start moving slowly into learning songs like Crash, because its easy once you have been playing for a month or two. Just keep at it. Hope this helps,
Peace[/i]

welcome to the boards and to the gutiar
teaching your fingers where to go and getting the strings to sound is the hardest part about learning the guitar, its where most people get frustrated and give up but DON'T BE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE! it is hard for everyone but perseverence will pay off!
when you start you may find yourself manually placing your left fingers with your RIGHT hand onto the strings because it is so hard but if you keep practicing soon your hand will 'learn' how to do it and it will just come naturally. but all anyone can pretty much tell you to do is practice, practice, practice, and practice
for crash i would try to learn each chord formation first before really trying to play the song and then once you are able to do them i would go on to putting them together and trying to get the rhythm down

yeah man, i got my guitar in September and i've advanced sooooooooo much since then with the help of dmbtabs board. if you just started playing your fingers are going to hurt for like 2-4 weeks or so until you get them all calloused up.
here's a pretty good resource for absolute beginners that i used
http://guitar.about.com/library/blguita ... rchive.htm
I started taking lessons a few weeks after i got my guitar and they really didn't help, in fact i regret taking them for the amount of money i paid.
Learn some chords, practice switching chords, then practice warm-up techniques and finger exercising techniques.

I have to agree with both of them NewUser. Playing the guitar at a later age, or so I'm guess
can be more difficult than playing when you were a child. You have to teach your left hand to stay where you want it, and teach your right hand to keep the rhythm. It can seem complicated at times, but just stick to it, and everything will work out. Then once you got the basic down, if you hit the Search link at the top of the page and type in any kind of guitar question that you may think, cause odds are, they have been asked here as well in the past
So I hope everything goes your way
Oh, by the way, WELCOME! Stay around and hang out with us

i understand your frustrations. i'm fairly new too...going on my 4th month playing. like jared, i too took some lessons, but didn't get much out of it, so i stopped. i think lessons are most useful in making you practice, because you have someone pushing you. in your case, you have to push yourself.
if you want to learn a dmb song, i suggest typical situation. pretty easy and should quickly get you stoked about playing.
just keep at it!

This is the online lessons i used to teach myself.

I first bought my guitar back in July last year and then just used that site to get some basic knowledge of the instrument. Now I can play pretty much every DMB song. Good luck and keep practicing.
