Got my Martin, but...

The strings are rattling quite a bit and it's not in tune, so are the strings probably jsut rattling so much ebcause it isn't in tune? Help!

Yeah, with it being out of tune could be the problem, but that's normally if it's really out of tune. So I would suggest tuning it and see if you still have the problem.
