I agree. I think when you compare Too Much from LS and Too Much from Live in Chicago, the Chicago version sounds alot better due to Tim's guitar. I just dont think that Butches part sounds all that great.

butch has made so many songs what they are today...examples: two step, watchtower, dont drink the water...PIG :) i say keep him whether he's ibn the band or not doesn't matter, but he definatley adds alot, theres no denying it. he's very underrated because he isn't up dancing or whatever.

I don't like him that much, he's an amazing piano player, but I don't think he fits in with DMB. It's probably a genre thing, but I liked Peter Greisar with DMB better (I.E. Two step salsa jam, Jimi Thing, etc.) IMHO

i voted for the yes and no, yes because he "enhances" many songs, such as the before mentioned crush, and think of the two step solos, but also i was thinking no, because DMB to me just wouldn't be the same with 6 people, maybe thats just me, but i keep thinking back to that quintet poster, and think, thats all there should be
he's a great player, i love listening to him, but an official member? sorry butch

he's got his own thing going, he just goes on because he is their good friend, and amazing. He does his own tours, and wants to be known for HIS music, not dmb.
Yea I know Tim Reynolds does his own thing.. =P

I see it as exactly the opposite, especially with those songs. Butch smooths out the sound of the band too much. I liked them better when their music had a little punch, a little bite. Butch adds soooo much blending, it ends up ruining things for me. Two step with butch is a yawner...you know there's going to be some 10 minute slow piano solo (now think how much better tim's solo is on redrocks, for example.) That song used to kick, and with butch on it, its just bleh. Listener supported two step doesnt have shit on redrocks, or any 96 two step. Even Peter (the old keys guy) was better...he played with a lot more "umph."

Id rather it be just the five than have butch.

how can you like the old ending of two step better? i usually skip over two step on RR cause of the ending
the newer ending, like on LS of FF is so much better, it showcases the bands, especially carters, skills of playing together, watch dave at the end of two step after they NAIL the ending on LS, priceless

Maybe I'm asking for trouble, but does anyone NOT like Timmy?

I don't really like his playing, and I don't think he fits with the band.

I dont mind the newer endings. I just dont like the Butch playing a solo, or having Butch smooth out the newer endings...thats all I was getting at.

Overall though, I think two step isnt quite what it used to be. I liked it better when it was more "back-woods" style...thats what the song was meant to be like. I think its a little too polished now. Like its lost a little edginess, or punch. And I think Butch's keys are partially responsible.

I think Butch is great, and I enjoy the live concerts with him (which is all of them), Infact I normally shout props for him if I am close enough to the stage.. "yeah butchy!!" but i agree with DJR07, not an official part of the band... The band, not d&t, will probably never play BWBF without their original keyboardest.. Has it been performed without the other dude?
