Great job, fire. I was wondering when we were going to hear you sing. I'm going to be picky for your benifit, but like I said earlier, know that you did a great job.

For starters, let me say that it was refreshing to hear someone sing here on these boards that wasn't trying to sound exactly like Dave. Keep your own voice. That's really important.

In terms of the voice, when you have good support under it, it's got a nice, pure quality to it. However, there are times when you try to use your throat too much. Don't be afraid to sing from the gut. There were a few times where I could tell that you were starting to dip in down there, and it sounded good. However, intonation went a little sour when you started to get more power under your voice, so you need to control it more (see 3:35 to hear this). But don't be afraid to really go for it and bellow it out. Also, watch the end of words and phrases, as sometimes pitch falls off the table. That's a really common thing, and it's a good idea to try and nip that in the butt before it becomes a really bad habit. Make sure you get good big breaths as there were times that you could tell that you were running out of air. I think my favorite moment for your voice is around 4:20. It stood out both times that I listened to it. You had more support than in any other place in the song, weren't afraid to let it get at least a little loud (though you've got the pipes to get MUCH louder than that) and you slid in and out of notes gracefully, without sounding overly ornate or annoying, which can be difficult. Some people simply can't keep things in tune when sliding into pitch, and some people just have no clue how to do it and make it sound good, and then some people just do it so much that they never sing a straight note, and you just want to slap them. Your voice has a nice depth to it; you can hear that it's not shallow, at least not when you're tapping into more than your throat. The more you leave your diaphragm out of the equation, the more shallow your voice is going to sound. Finally, I don't know how far along in puberty you are (I mean all this seriously) but that has a HUGE affect on the male voice, in terms of range, ease of staying on pitch, and vocal character. I experienced a real blossoming in my voice between the ages of 16-18 more or less, so I'd say that you have a really good voice, and especially when you consider the affect of age. Just make sure to be as discriminating about it as you are your guitar playing and it should continue to improve.

as you know well, the songs we best sing are the ones that we are used to, and while I have sung along with the cd, i have never done it while playing, but i can tell sometimes when i almost whine like i am drunk or tired...

sure there are some flaws like tico mentioned, but everybody has room for improvement, even dave, right?

im listening to it right now for the second time and i gotta tell ya, you did a really good job, singin and playin at the same time, but as tico said, id like to hear you sing alond to a song you know very well or maybe even sing on a separate track so we can see what youre really capable of

but seriously, the rhythm section was perfect, and the Tim parts were excellent, the singing was better than I thought it would be by the way you were talking
