Older singer songwriters

Post by jjcucio »

Anyone listen and play old stuff like Gordon Lightfoot or Simon and Garfunkel? I just started getting into playing singer-songwriters of old and its pretty good stuff. I was wondering if anyone else did it, or if there are any artists that others suggest i try to play.

Yea I love that stuff, defiantely buy Joni Mitchells' album Blue. It has some of the best songwriting ever, not to mention james taylor plays guitar and sings harmony with her.

I grew up on Simon and Garfunkel. And Simon's solo stuff is just as great. I have memories of being about 3 and listening to Graceland.

James Taylor is cool too.

Simon and Garfunkle are the best man!!! American Tune, The Boxer, 50 ways to leave your lover, hell yea!

James taylor is the man as well, his style relaxes me and i think his voice is so original

Cat Stevens has tons of good stuff. I like how all my female friends love Sheryl Crow's cover of First Cut and they all think Sheryl wrote it. Ignorance.

I forgot Richie haven's is amazing, He does mostly covers(his own style), but he is just the most powerful singer and rythym guitarist ive ever heard. He opened up woodstock, if youve ever seen that video. I have some mp3's if you want em, his all along the watchtower is really cool-

I grew up listening to my dad play Lightfoot, jim croce, harry chapin, cat stevens. I've only been playing for over a year, so I'm trying to find some of their songs to learn on. (to break up the dave a lil).

Ya, my dad introduced me to his music a few years back, he is an extremely passionate performer.
