A little help with # 40

like that tab says, use your index finger for the F (0102x1) then build the rest of the chord with your middle and ring finger. then use your pinky for the G (0102x3)

I've always played the 102010 chord with my thumb. I never understood why dave plays it all funky like he does...it just seems terribly inefficient. What do you guys think? Any logic behind this, other than that youre not technically supposed to use your thumb?

I always use the thumb when it makes it easier, like here or in pnp/wwys when he plays 354030
