He seemed to think that drummers don't really buy that much extra stuff and have it sitting arounf for different gigs/situations. Like I said, I'm a bit in the dark here on specifics, but what he says just dosnt seem to make sense to me. Help me out drummers. Also, I want a quote on how much carters set is (I know he changes it around alot, but give an estimate by like what the road crew has listed as his stuff...). Thanks guys, and If i'm totaly wrong please point it out, it wouldnt be the first time, it just didnt seem logical to me...

It doesn't sound like your buddy knows much about trumpet...
I'm a drummer, but in all the times I've played in jazz bands, pit orchestras for musicals, and other groups, I've never seen a trumpet player use more than one trumpet primarily. As stated before, trumpet's aren't concert pitched, btu that doesn't mean they can't play all 12 notes in an octave. All he would have to do is transpose to be playing the same thing.
So unless he is getting his harmonica confused with a trumpet, he probably only needs one.

No way, his kit is around $15,000... give or take a few thousand here. You can buy it all from retailers and none of it is vintage which would make it more expensive. (Well except that Chinese Bell thing)
drummers spend the most...not necessarily instrument vs. instrument. but in upkeep and experimenting, both the costs of drumheads (skins) and cymbals have been mention. Good quality and sounding heads and cymbals are relatively expensive and considering that the more you play the more often you break and have to replace them. so lets say you have one 18" ride, a 16" crash , 14" hats and a 6" splash. can be... $400+350+350+100=$1200 just in cymbals.. now your ride may last forever... but lets say you like the sound of a thin crash better, but they dont last as long so you have three of those.. you want another set of hats for a different sound and you have gone through 5 splashes. now you have $400+350x3+350x2+100x5=$2650.. and thats medium-end grade stuff and actually a relatively small amount of cymbals.. just look at carters... and assume he goes through at least 3 of each cymbal per tour. anyway probably cost of 10k a tour in cymbals (not that his sponsored ass pays a dime for em) . Then there are heads... I have a nine piece kit, and whenever I replace all my heads It runs around 600. luckily I dont play that often. but some people break a head everytime they get behind a kit. i would say the average gigging player with a medium to large kit pays close at least 500 a year on heads and at least that much on cymbals a year, sticks arent incredibly expensive but well just say about 100 (between sticks, rods and brushes) a year. and you always get at least one new toy (whether it be an additional cymbal , another floor tom, or a pedal for that cowbell) well say 150 allowance in goodies a year... well round it all a bit down for fairness and say the average drummer spends $1000 a year on his set. Now a good trumpet needs what, oil? every few years it may need repair but so do drums.. you can break a shell or a rim , or a stand just by transporting it and we have much more that can break. You need a trumpet case, we need a hardware bag, cymbal case, drum case for each individual drum and I prefer a separate box for pedals. you can get a nice kit (if we are gunna talk about expensive higherend trumpets we might as well talk about higher end drums... so im gonna go with a 6 piece dw kit.)for $4k. plus cymbals 5K.
