I duno if you realized it, but Dave just plays a small run in the Ab major scale. If you know the chords within that scale, then you might be able to add them in for that part. Honestly I think it sounds fine as it is. Just find someone to play violin behind it for you

For me, I like the pause between it. I think it sounds bold when doing it by yourself on the guitar. And then you can get the pissed off look like... "I'm so sweet that I don't have to put anything in here to fill it. Because I'm the shit!" Then start into the "rest high" part. Ok, maybe not, I can dream can't I?

I have heard him do a slide on the low E with a mute after sliding and then go. That's how I fill the void.
