guitar troubles...help

Post by whit »

:!: :?: uhh..ok..so i have a really awesome washburn acoustic...pretty expensive..only guitar i could ever imagine having...i love it. anyhow. the G string keeps breaking and i think it's because when i had the strings put on last time, the guy practically hammered them into the bridge, and there are knotched in the brigde from where the strings were...and now i think that has something to do with the G brasking all the time. it breaks right by the bridge...so i don't know what to do. anyone have any quick pointers...that'd be cool..thanks.

get a plastic of the same color and grind it into powder. take this and super glue and 2 ice cream sticks and shape it into a bridge with no notches, let this dry for an hour or so. (you neeed to take off all the strings to do this btw) then take a finger nail filer and grind it down just a little. take a string and put it on the 6 position and tune it. it should be a little incline going up the neck...

couldnt be more thann a buck or so...on a new one you will have to grind it down to get the balance right. you would most likely want to leave that up to a guitar pro

I had the same problem a while ago.. your bridge MAY have been flipped around.. because if it is a pre-fit bridge, it has a set curve to it.. try flipping it around(as in the side on the right then being on the left) and see if it still breaks

my washburn had the exact same problem, but the guys at the store told me i just strummed too hard. so i switched to a higher gauge string, and strummed lighter. seemed to work for me. but still go and get it checked out.

You can NEVER and I mean NEVA strum too hard.. strumming hard gives it a great passion in songs such as All Along The Watchtower.. i doubt strumming too hard is the cause.. a guitar is meant to be strummed hard..

agreed. the problem is that your bridge is cut to deep. if you have an old guitar, eventually this will occur.

Bite your toung my friend (I know I spelled that wrong). Washburn makes an excellent guitar at the entry level....probably the best in it's price range. They also make some good mid-level guitars. Have not heard much on the higher end though.

I have a D21S and I love it.
