Help with Grey Street

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Help with Grey Street

Post by dmbRJR »

Since I can't view the videos - see post "Still can't view videos", I was wondering if someone can help me with the finger placement for the following chord:

E:-2---
B:-3---
G:-4---
D:-4---
A:-2---
E:------

I am having trouble getting it. Any help would be great. Thanks!

It's the same as playing a power chord but just dropped all fingers down a step.. Bar with the index finger, middle finger plays 3 and ring and pinky play four..Hope that helps..

EEk!!! Be careful how you say things. He is not dropping his fingers down a step. He is changing the barre chord from having the base note on the low E string to having it on the A string.

Dropping something a step means lowering the pitch by 2 frets or a whole tone (Ex.: Lowering an F one whole step would mean you play an E).

Having that said and out of the way, the finger positions you were told were correct, lol. I was making sure you keep your terminology straight.

It's all good...just be careful. A lot of ppl come here for help, and then they become confused...I have a tendency to confuse/annoy ppl here myself.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

incorrect!

dropping a whole step from an F would make it an Eb or D#.

Order of notes:

A A#/Bb B C C#/Db D D#/Eb E F F#/Gb G#/Ab

the notes that have a / can be called either one.

Ha!!! You are rite...I was thinking about using a C first, but then I decided to use F...what a dumbass am I!!!? I should stuck with something like G...I receive partial credit for the fact that it was just my example was bad. The definition was correct tho.

the B minor takes the 1st, b3rd (1/2 step below the 3rd), and 5th interval of the Bmaj scale (which would be B, D, and F# respectively).

so, the notes on that chord are:
F#
D
B
F#
B
