thinking about wood

Post by hcole »

I was wondering what the difference in mahogany and east indian rosewood is (other than the color). What are the differences in sounds. I have read that mahogany has a better bass response and that rosewoods ring out a little more. Is this correct? Also if you have a preference let me know.

Rosewoods definitely ring out more. I really havent noticed a better bass response with mahogany, I think it more depends on the type of guitar style it is (drednaught, grand concert, what have you)

from what I know rosewood has a more complex tone with better bass response, and mahogany has a clearer more defined sound-
that bourgeois website that isaac posted has alot better defination than me-

in my experience mahogany is kindof in your face. and with lots of sustain (think les paul)...my rosewood taylor hasa very sweet bassy sound.

really hard to describe wood tone with words though.
