So I've been saving up for a new guitar since Christmas. I've got about $850 or $900 saved up right now. A friend of mine that plays locally asked me to play on her upcoming album and I'm pumped about it. I'd really like to have my new guitar for this. Because I can't work during the school year I have no way of making more money, so I think I'm going to ask my dad to front me the rest and I'll pay him off this summer. It helps that I just secured a solid summer job too. Anyways, I think I will soon be purchasing the Martin DC-16GTE Premium. I included a link to the specs. I'm just curious as to what you guys think of it? Anyone have it? I just want to be sure that I'm buying a quality guitar if I'm going to drop $1500 on it. I have played it and I really like the sound and the feel.
Agreed. In the price range, before you drop the dough, check out some Takamines too. Maybe some Larrivees. It's worth it to play around before dropping that kind of money.
Hey man, I have that exact guitar. I would go ahead and get it. I saved for a long time for it as well ahah and am still paying my dad back. I know its not the most expensive of expensive but it sure does what I want it to. I dont know if you have had a chance to demo rosewood vs. mahogony, but it does what mahogoney does best! Its plain and simple, no special features, but thats what I like in a guitar. You wont be disappointed. Any questions about it, dont be afraid to ask! Good luck with your purchase!

thanks for the info
yeah, i like the simple beauty of it. i also really like that i can blend between the mic and the pickup too. i figure it's just what i need and it's definitely two or three steps up from what i have now. i'm in dire need of an upgrade. right now i have a martin dx1. i'm getting more serious about my playing..trying to get more serious about my writing..and i'd like to do more open mics/live shows.

I have that pick-up on my D35 and it's pretty nice.
However, if I could go back I would buy the soundhole version to avoid the "barn hole".

I started out with the DX1 myself. Well the cutaway version. I was having trouble with my undersaddle pickup so I figured i needed something better. With the electronics, I think it makes a great gigging guitar. Have any of you heard of those aura imaging pedals? Not the aura pickups but the pedal? I hear you can do some pretty sick stuff mixing the aura with an undersaddle??
so i went to burlington guitar & amp today to check out what they had for martins. they didn't have the one i want, but the guy said they could order it. i also told him i had a place in new york that was selling it for $1349. he gave me the owners card and told me to give him a call and explain. said that chances are he'll probably go ahead and beat that price. i'm fucking pumped. the owner sorta knows me too because i go in there all the time. hopefully he can hook me up. i'm so excited. this summer i'll buy a sick amp for it and hopefully some recording gear.
I have this guitar except it's the rosewood model. I couldn't be happier with it. The tone is o so sweet and the electronics are solid. I recommend the phosphor bronze elixer strings. I never played the mohagany version but I've never been a big fan of that type of wood anyway. Pretty good if you can get it for lower than that price you mentioned. I got mine with case and all for 1400. It's a nice git-box fo sho.
