Building my own Guitar?
Has anyone here ever tried? I was just thinking with guitars like Martin, Taylors, Gibson acoustics, etc. with prices ranging form a couple of thousands to the ten thousands....I'm sure they're blue prints are out on the internet somewhere...wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the material, find some "handy-man carpenter dude" to help you out and you could have the exact same guitar....

Might cost you a lot less, but I highly doubt, make that know youre not gonna be able to build your own guitar thats anywhere up to snuff of the quality of a Martin or Taylor, or any other major brand. I think quality like that comes with years of mastering the luthier process and having the right equimpent and knowhow. Thats why only a few brands of guitars are held in such high regard.

I was just thinking of something......say you're jammin' out at some party or an open mic...whatever...you play some badass covers, originals, whatever...fellow guitar players come up to you.. "that's a nice guitar, what kind is it?" they say.....you give em' Clint Eastwood-outlaw josie wales stare...."it's mine.....I built it...."
That would be so F*ckin badass!!!!!just thought I'd share

Making guitars is actually pretty cheap(my dad started becuse he didnt want to buy an l-5), But he already had all the woodworking tools...so that changes things.
If you have any questions I can ask him-

I think Martin actually sells kits for making guitars that are a few hundred dollars depending on what type of wood you get

Oh yea, i havent built mine yet, but I love playing my dads, its not fancy with layers of binding, nice electronics, or an easy playing neck, but it is the best sounding electric guitar Ive ever played...so very powerful when you have all that wood set up in a way you like it.
I cant wait to start mine-

im just gonna use mahoganony, Its the same kinda that is used on this site: http://www.rahul.net/gaa/Weiss/
sounds similar to Koa, but dosnt look quite as nice.
that will cost me $75, not too much, and then I will just need tuners and a couple random peices of rosewood. So mabey $150-200, but it will probably take a while
