good recording program?

i need to find a new recording program...something really basic and simple. anyone have any ideas for me?

i like the cakewalk products. there easy to use, and have a lot of nice features. right now i use pro audio, but i have used home studio and sonor as well.

i just yelled "balki!!" as soon as i saw his face...that was a funny show.

..and is there any free recording programs that will let me do basic track mixing? my friend and i are doing a dave/tim cover cd so we need like two tracks to work with and mix.
