How dave writes

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

How dave writes

Unread post by SWB » Tue Jan 06, 2004 11:12 pm

how does dave write his music, does he create the guitar part first or the lyrics first or both?

i know he uses weed to help get some of the thoughts out.....

anyways i'm asking all this because i got some serious writters block for the past 2 weeks, well for only two weeks i guess i can't quit call it serious but anyways if anyone has any tips i'd love to hear them.

thanks alot.

"i know he uses weed to help get some of the thoughts out..... "

he has never said that, or mentioned anywhere close to that. Dave really just lets it come to him, and just works it out as time goes on. During Everyday, though, glen ballard showed him to just go and grab the song and run with it, that's how he wrote those 12 songs in 2 weeks. Now, as he said in Guitar World Acoustic (I got the new issue :) ), that he let them come to him again, but they used a lot of looping and such when recording, and worked out songs that way like So Damn Lucky.

For me, I always let it come. The song comes out with a little riff I play with randomly, and once I do that it forms itself into a workable structure. Then I will get a spark, and run to write lyrics and structure it in a spurge.

You should download the videos i posted in the nDMB section , called DMB Early Years , there is all the info you need from the studio works and stuff , where you even see Dave's original lyrics written down and how he decides whether or not to keep the lyrics he writes , its all a matter to him of getting a good starting line , then it all comes on it self , and i personally find that to be true myself :)

This may be a little off topic, but what is looping? I read the same article in Acoustic Guitar World. He mentions it a few times in there.

I wonder if Dave writes the lyrics first, if he writes the guitar part first and puts lyrics to it, or if he has done both (if so on what songs). I know that it said on VH1's Driven that his wife would come visit him and then leave, and because of his longing for her, he wrote 'Crash'

You're welcome anytime Sciaracastro :) And yes you can cancel at anytime and it will automatically resume when you start up the download again :) Just make sure it selects the same folder as you previously saved it to , then it will resume :)

GSRLessard14 , no that wasen't me saying that for sure hehe , but no i only think that the Ants Marching has SHN files , not videos , sorry :(

SWB , yes Bit Torrent is a little client that recognizes .torrent files , when you click on them , the little client will be initiated and will ask for a location to save the content :)
