American Baby intro tab

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Although that's not what Dave does (as it's been pointed out already), I like this better. Soudns better if you're just messin around by yourself.

Yeah I watched the screens at Darien and got the actual tab, which I posted on the last page. I do like playing this though because its much more full.

It looks as if this debate has already been solved and we're pretty sure Dave plays it:

E------------
B------------
G------------
D------------
A--2--5------
E--------2--3-

I don't know though, it looks different to me in this video, and this is the best I've found so far. Maybe it's just my eyes, but here it is:

http://music.aol.com/video/american-bab ... rt/1689334

To me it just doesn't look like he's using his pinky, or any other finger for that matter, to hit the A string on the 5th.

that's because he's playing the A using the open D string instead of the A string 5th fret.

thats how i play it.
This is exactly right, except you can substitute the 5th fret D in there as opposed to the open string...this is how he played it when I watched him at Fenway and this is also how he plays it on the "AOL LIVE" video from Florida when his voice was shitty that concert. If you go to AOL.com and search DMB, you can get a plethora of videos.

Thats right. I've seen it played 3 times plus the video you just mentioned in Florida and thats exactly how dave's played it every time. Very simple.
