quick dumb question

ive been playing for about a year now and i never took lessons. I was just wondering the correct way to play a power chord like this:

Do i play it with my pinky barred across the 5's or do i play th eD string 5 w/ my pinky and the A string 5 w/ my ring, hope this makes sense to someone i always have a hard writing what im thinking, ok later.
