I am so amazed at people trying to pin certain music as "real." Isn't all music real? No matter how much a specific person likes or dislikes a specific artist, that does not make that artist's efforts any less "real."

I am someone who will listen to a Bach cantata, a Beethoven symphony, Wagner opera and DMB CD all back to back. No one is any more "real" than any other.

All that matters is that an artist do what they want. Beethoven was vilified during his time for writing "repugnant" music, and now we count him as a genius. Leonard Bernstein was the music director of the NY Philharmonic AND wrote West Side Story.

In fact, John Mayer, in my opinion, is very similar to Bernstein. He is such a skilled guitarist (he DID go to Berkley) schooled in all the complexities of jazz and blues, yet he is still capable of writing some of the most radio-friendly tunes in recent memory.

As long as there has been music, certain people have liked or disliked specific composers/artists. That does not mean that any one person is more or less "real." It is all preference. I just cannot stomach people trying to make a blanket statement about an artist's skill because they do not like their product.

I absolutely detest the music of Jessica Simpson, but I respect her for being successful and having talent in the area of music she enjoys. Is she less musically knowledgable and technically skilled than Beethoven? Probably. Does that make her music any less real? Not at all.

I take every gif I watch (which is A LOT) with a humongous grain of salt. But I don't let that grain of salt get into my eye and blind me to whatever truth can be found in what I'm watching. He is not any worse than any other poster here, and the people who claim he is just don't know what they're talking about. The demonization has gotten ridiculously out of hand.

Someone's got to stick up for them when they are right!

You must relaize by me saying these things, I have nothing to gain. I am only risking my internet integrity amongst ya'll for people (like this dude) who I don't know. Some would call that righteous.
