What do you guys recommend for a short-scale bass? I want something more than a $199 piece of shit. What do you think of the Fender Mustang? What about the Gibson SG bass? Thanks!

I have the opportunity to buy a G&L Tribute SB-2 new for $350.
Is that a great deal? Body is made in Korea; pickups and bridge made in the USA.

I'm looking to get started learning bass, and I figured that 350 is a good price in case I don't stick with it.

I have a 2006 Martin D35 , and am in talks with a guy with a 2004 Taylor 714ce .
The Martin doesn't have electronics, whereas the Taylor has the ES.
Both are in great condition. It would be a straight up trade.

The Martin sells for about $2100; the Taylor for $2749.
Those prices are based ...

I have a Danelectro 56-Pro. It's very nice.
It sounds different than a Strat or LP.

The LX series have a "patch" on the back that's a little rougher, and it stays on your leg easier. I admit that the shape took some getting used to, but with practice, the guitar stays where you want it, especially with a strap. My preferred bowl shape is the Super Shallow, as it's nice to play ...

The key is to not get a Martin with an X in the name.

It only has one pickup. I'd think that would limit your tone, but I'm no electric expert.
I'd probably save up for a "real" Les Paul.
Or, if you're poor, go for a high-end Epi version.
