Torrent/Dave DVD's

Post by ludes454 »

I saw a couple posts here about these torrent files at sharingthegroove.com and i was just wondering if anyone could tell me a little about this. Mainly what i want to know is how does anyone have room to download 11 gigs of a concert video ??? Is there some other place or way to save them. Then what do you do with them, just watch them on your computer or make a DVD somehow??

thanks

All I can help with is trying to download "Bit Torrent". Do a google search or something. Hope that helped a LITTLE.

first of all, if it is an 11gb file, you need at least 11gb of free space on your hard drive (80 gb hard drives are common now). expect to wait about a week for you to finish downloading (if your computer is on 24/7).

that gets downloading covered. next, you need the right codecs to play it on your computer, as well as the right software to burn it onto a DVD disc. for this, you need a DVD-R, not just a CD-R. since dvd-r's can only hold around 5gb, you'll need to split the file into two, if it's not already done.

after all of this, hopefully the dvd player you choose to play it on will be compatible with dvd-r's. piece of cake.

yea most people dont save dvds as a lot of times they come ready to burn with menus and all... saves space to just burn and delete...

shn's on the other hand are cramping my space- i have about 3 Gb of an 80 Gb drive open and close to 150 cds to burn

Not that the info mentioned are wrong , they just lack a little info , just need a little adjustment ;)

If the download is 11GB , then you need atleast 12 / 13GB of space , as you will always need extra space ( the drive won't function properly without space , 2GB minumum left is a recommendation ) .

For playback , the best software i've seen to date have been PowerDVD .

You forgot to mention about DVD+R discs ;) Some people use those instead , DVD-R just have better compatibility with DVD players , thats why the best idea would be to use a DVD-R disc :)

DVD-R discs hold 4.7GB data ( 4438MB ) and as stated , it would need to be split into 2 discs , but usually Bit Torrent downloads are already made that way , if they aren't , then the guy who made the torrent should be kicked .... Hard ;)

As see you auntie also said , Hopefully the DVD player you have will support DVD-R discs , it will be stated in the manual of your drive , or you can go here and make a search for your DVD player DVDRhelp.com and check if its compatible with reading DVD-R discs or DVD+R for that matter :) If you're going to go buy a new DVD player , then make sure it supports DVD-R / DVD+R discs , an average list price for cheap players who will read a biscuit if you throw that in , is starting from around 80$ and up :)
