Help with Stretching for #41 intro

Post by Stephen »

Can someone give me help on how to make my fingers do that stretch? Should I treat this like karate school and calisthetics as they try to make you flexible enough to do a split and just stick a tennis ball in between my middle and ring finger for an hour?

practice it and eventually they'll get used to it...if you can't even do it at all yet, i suppose if you capo up a few frets it'd be an easier stretch, and then work your way down, but just practicing it is going to do a ton
B+P by offer only...thank you

Exactly what Matty said , stretching takes time and practice , just practice the stretch of the chords as much as you can and it will come with time :)

That is actually a good stretching technique , used that for martial arts training , it gets the fingers going :)

Yup , i didn't say i did it for the guitar , but i did for martial arts lol , i don't have stretching problems , but if i did i would probably use the tennis ball trick , or what i do every now and then , put my fingers on the table and make them go into split mode like you do with the legs , that will give them a stretch , just don't push them too hard :)

You can always get rid of the note that forms the tough stretch if you really want to learn the song. Playing 53x5xx, 75x7, x75x8x for the first few chords will give you the same sound, but take it from me, learning a song fast just to learn it won't teach you anything.

Does anyone find the transition from the end of the verse to the Jam in #41 difficult?

I can usually play a song then #41 or sometimes I go into the intro to #41 cold, but my fingers don't ever wanna seem to stretch after the verse for the jam no matter what. Does anyone else have this problem?

peace
I love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow.

always remember your'e playing bigger stretches, make sure you're bringing your elbow more in towards your body.

Well, at the end of #41's lyrics you should be playing the chorus chords ("Why won't you run into rain and play... and let tears splash all over you") Maybe that'll help a little better.

good point andy...i forget this sometimes, readjust and find that it's a lot easier... positioning of the guitar is almost as important as how you hold your pick
