Oh my God my fingers are green!!

It seems like whenever i use non coated strings my fingers turn green and so do the strings..no matter what i do the tone dies in like 5 min and the strings are green and i always wash my hands and wipe down the strings any suggestions?

buy coated strings

the only real way to keep not coated strings from dying so quickly is to keep the guitar in the case whenever you aren't playing it.

coated strings may cost twice as much, but they will last twice as long (try Nanoweb elixirs- coated but with the feel of noncoated

)

I agree with Jack on this one.. I personally like the polyweb ones cause i like the coated feeling.. but most definetly always keep it in a case, whipe down the neck, and clean your hands each time you play

That is still the weirdest thing I've ever heard of as far as guitar playing goes. I've never once had my fingers turn green (a little dark at times maybe from dirty strings, but never green!) in the years that I've been playing. I can play a set of strings for months if I want to, but I usually switch out ever few weeks cause I like a brighter new string tone as opposed to a more mellow broken in sound. I can't begin to tolerate elixir coated strings though. I use D'Addario coated strings, and not because they last longer, but because I think they are the best sounding string I've ever put on my guitar.

I use D'Addario EJ16's (uncoated lights) and my fingers never turn green and the tone lasts for a very long time (compared to other uncoateds)... maybe you should try these.

I just broke a string on my guitar. im going to go up to GC and get some new strings. i'll try those d'addarios out. Im a bigger fan of non-coated strings anyway.

maybe some people have weird reactions to the metal, I know my fingers have never turned green in the eight years I been playing electric/acoustic with all kinds of different strings.

I've never had green fingers either, but when I wear certain watches, I end up with a big green circle on my wrist. It's some kind of weird reaction with the metal. I freaked the first time it happened, it was funny.

hey, I'm new.

I get the green fingers too. It's probably just sweat and copper strings that causes the green reaction. Happens with copper rings too.

never had my fingers turn green, i use phosphor bronze strings on my one acoustic and silk/steel strings on acoustic-electric

This reminds me of a question.. I've really only been playing for 4 or 5 months and I haven't really tried out coated strings. A friend of mine has some Elixir's (hell if I know which kind) and I found my fingers slipped around on the strings too much. Are all coated strings like this?

I wholeheartedly agree. I use D'Addario EJ 17s, the mediums. I went through a lot of strings before I found these. Simply amazing.

Acidrain: I used to use Elixirs and found that, too. I don't find the D'Addario coated strings to feel like they're coated. D'Addario coats before they wind the string while Elixir coats the string after it's wound. I can tell the difference.

Am i the only one that uses phospher bronze? i use martins. my friend tells me he hates them, but i use a lot of stretch chords...obviously cause i play Dave, and they almost help grip my fingers and keep them from sliding too easily. He uses elixers and i can't keep my finger where i want to w/ those. anyway, not a lot of people like the phospher bronze, but maybe you would if you tried them...and they're still cheap.
