O.K. here's the deal. I have been playing the guitar for just over a year now (self taught), and I've been thinking a lot about getting a new acoustic electric for recording and live playing situations. I currently own a Seagull S6+ solid top spruce. So far I've been fairly happy with the guitar, but like I said earlier, I want to be able to record and play live without having to mic the guitar. My only complaints about the seagull is that it has a fairly wide neck and an incredibly ugly headstock. There is a huge guitar shop very close to where I go to school in La Crosse Wisconsin (Dave's Guitar Shop). I'm looking at trading in my Seagull for something new. They said that I could get roughly $225 on the seagull for a trade, and I'd be willing to spend another $300 - 400 ontop of the trade value (so around 600-700 total). Anyway, I'd greatly appreciate any help or suggestions on guitars to try out. This shop carries everything from washburn to high end taylor/martin etc. Thanks everyone, and I apologize for bringing up this very trendy topic.

You could get a new mahog 03 series without electronics or cutaway in the neighborhood of $700 or so. The best prices I've found are at http://www.guitaradoptions.com.

Basically take 30-40% off of the list price of their guitars and that's generally in the neighborhood you should expect to pay for a new one.

I would love to get my hands on a Larrivee, but the shop that I like to deal with doesnt carry them. I also have another option for more money....I have an 05 fender telecaster that is absolutley mint which i rarely play, which i could also sell for a nicer acoustic. Let me know what ya'll think about that

Ya alvarez and Laris are good, plus Dave's kicks ASS! I go to school in wisconsin and went up there, one of the best guitar stores around, I'm sure you will find something in there you will like, just shop around.

If I were you, I would share all this information with the guys at the guitar shop. You'll get some good recommendations here on the boards, but if Dave's is a good place, then they can certainly point you in the right direction. That wasy you can sit down and play all the guitars one after another, and figure out which one works best for you.

Good Luck! Also, if you NEVER play your electric, I think it's worth considering trading that up to.

for $550 i think one of the best guitars you can get is the Alvarez AJ60SC, its a jumbo, so it might be a bit much for just playing solo gigs, but if you can get another $150 ontop of that the larivee is an amazing deal. that LV03 is awesome (do they all come flat though or do they make a gloss one?)

In the alvarez line Im considering the MF80c, which has solid spruce top and solid mahogany back/sides....I'm also considering the PF90S, which has a solid spruce top with a solid rosewood back but laminate rosewood sides. I know that its important to play a ton of guitars (I already have and will continue to) but i wanted to know what you all think of the wood differences on these two. Both of these models are grand concert sized, but I still want a guitar that can project well. With that said, will the rosewood back/lami sides still project more than the full mahogany? And one last question....how much do laminate sides detract from the overall sound? Thanks for the input everyone, I really appreciate it!
